Tying a ScarfColumn by Marilyn Wetston for Women with Vision March- April 2008 It is the time of year when it is officially spring on the calendar but it does not mean the spring flowers are yet blooming. In fact, gardeners plan now, plant seedlings indoors and anxiously wait until May to actually put plants in the ground and avoid the frost. This pattern of events serves as a perfect guideline for those of us who enjoy our clothes and wish to build a spring/summer wardrobe this season. We too want to leave dreary winter behind and emerge in light airy spring garments. However to do so before the temperature allows us to put our coats and boots away until next fall is a little premature. For those of you who have been smitten with the spring fashions in the magazines and now in the stores take your cue from the gardeners. It is time to review the clothes in your closet.Time to purge the items you will never wear again from both your winter and last spring and summer's clothes. If these items are wearable recycle them by donating to a local women's charity who will be grateful to distribute them. To guide you through this process refer to my web site www.marilyns.ca and follow the "How to Organize your closet" instructions.Once you have a true picture of what you have already and understand what your actual needs are, you too can plan for 2008 spring summer. The gardener works her magic by understanding her flower beds-their size, their soil fertility and their position in the light. She then plans what flowers will work best in her already established garden. It is her vision that creates her magic garden. It is up to you to evaluate yourself and understand your individual needs before your start to plan what you will add to your existing wardrobe. Then going forward make yourself aware of the current offerings and create a plan from which you can pull together your very own spring summer statement. This season offers a floral theme. The roses, daffodils, lilacs, peonies and other flowers will flourish everywhere you look. There will be floral print shirts, skirts pants....Accessories will take the shape of our favourite blossoms.for inspiration and each of us will be able to use our favourite flower to enhance our wardrobe No need to despair if small floral motifs don't appeal to you.The variety offered for this season includes modern visions as well as Monet's Waterlilies. To anchor the roots of our wardrobe flowers there will be sand and earth neutrals as well as blues and the standard black. The garden theme will extend to motifs of butterflies, birds and even include the embellishment of feathers on garments and accessories. All the garden colours including the greens of leaves and stems will be there for you to view.Dressing this season will definitely mirror our gorgeous gardens in the array of blossoms and colours. To balance this flowery romantic theme there are clothes with clean and simple lines. It will be easy to find a shirt dress, a tank top and pants of all lengths and leg widths. In fact, as well as the embellished garden theme, there is an emerging minimalism which will encourage some of us to wear solid simple items and block a modern look. There will be tops in ultra sheer and loose weave fabrics which will skim over our simple bare basics. Each will add a transparent layer to complete our look and add a veil of colour as does the shimmer of the morning dew or the web of a spider. | |||
